Free Write- Starbucks Cup

So I cannot say I am fully informed on this issue, thus I cannot actively debate it.  However from what I do know, I think this whole issue over the red Starbucks cups has definitely got out of hand.  I think there are better things to be concerned and debate about than a cup a coffee company uses during their winter season.  I think people are also overlooking the fact that it is associated with the Product RED charity and that the proceeds go to AIDS research.  I would also say they are not specific to a certain holiday as they are just solid red.  This is my take from the outside looking in.  Like I said, I do not care enough about this issue or think it is relevant enough to warrant the time investment.

  1. Brady,

I recently heard about this issue, which I also think is just absolutely ridiculous. I completely agree with you that there are so many bigger concerns in the world then a red cup of coffee that does not say "Merry Christmas" on it. It is just absurd that so many people are complaining about it. The red cup does resemble a really good cause, being that money is being donated to AIDS research. I think Starbucks is doing a wonderful thing and people should really stop to think about all the major problems we have going on in this world, instead of feeling offended that a cup does not with them a "Merry Christmas."

  2. Hi Brady,
I completely agree with you - I definitely think that the "red cup" issue with Starbucks has been blown out of proportion. Ultimately, what needs to be understood is that the holiday season is not same for everyone. Not everyone actually celebrates Christmas. Additionally, the fact that you are able to afford a cup of Starbucks coffee is incredible in itself. I don't think people should be so concerned about the appearance of the cup and what it represents. At the end of the day, all it is is a cup. I didn't realize that the red cup was in fact a RED product - I think that's great. Hopefully this will blow over soon!

  3. Hey Brady,
I really enjoyed reading this because I feel the exact same way! I can't believe that this is even a controversy. It's funny you stated you weren't too familiar with the issue, I feel the same way because once I heard the basis of what was going on I didn't care at all to even pay attention to the whole thing, in fact I got a drink from Starbucks today

  4. Hey brady,
I'm in agreement with everyone else about the ridiculousness of the argument. I recently worked for Starbucks and my girlfriend still works for the company. The company had no hidden agenda or goal of making a statement with the cups other than red is a seasonal color. I was a little upset when I heard my girlfriend tell me a story that her day at work was ruined when a customer made a scene in the store over the cup stating that she wanted the words "merry Christmas" to be written on her cup and that it was insulting that the company was offending her religion. The argument made no sense and I'm just glad I wasn't there to witness or I may have lost my job due to a reply back to the customer. Anyways, just my input.
